Spotlight on Colorectal Cancer

In this program, we meet Haydn, a young man diagnosed with Colorectal cancer and Dr. Ron Burkes, medical oncologist at Mount Sinai Hospital and The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

“ I was the last person I could imagine would get colorectal cancer. It’s usually associated with people who are a bit older, so a 22-year-old is not what I expected. I also live a very healthy lifestyle, very active.” ~ Haydn Bechtold

“In terms of young adults or the youth, we know that the incidence of colorectal cancer is declining in the older population. But we know that the opposite is happening in people under 50.

We know that the incidence of colorectal cancer is increasing in this population. We know that other aspects of young individuals developing cancer is, it often goes undiagnosed because it’s not suspected in young people.” ~ Dr. Ron Burkes
